There’s just something special in the air on the Yucatán peninsula in Mexico. The balmy tropical climate combined with a vibrant cultural history blends together to create a colourful and irresistible atmosphere. Today we will be touring a hacienda style house with colonial influences by the talented design team at Taller Estilo Architectura.  In doing so, they home has been transformed into a highly modern home, the picture of opulence. Yet, this expansive abode still pays homage to its cultural roots. Its interior—and exterior—are filled with Mexican cultural aesthetic flair. The exterior is sultry and romantic, equipped with everything you might need for a perfect relaxing evening spent with a partner. Indoors the high ceilings and stylistic details emphasise the thoughtful luxuriousness in a way that only these designers are able to do. Come with us as we take a tour of this remarkable home!

Mexican cultural essence

The primary living area consists of an expansive open plan area with high ceilings. The arches are reminiscent of colonial style in this region while the colouring brings to life the pervading Mexican cultural aesthetic. The orange chair, rich cream coloured walls, and brown furnishings in particular speak to the regional styles of the Yucatán. The tiling adds an additional tropical vibe, and the vintage furnishings bring an appealing sense of nostalgia to the atmosphere.

Distinct dining area

Shifting our focus to the other side of the arches, there is a large wooden dining table. It is ideal for family dinners. The different pattern tiling helps to add definition between the different portions of the first floor. The ceilings and light fixtures stand in direct contrast to those in the living room. The similar colouring of the tiles, still allows them to remain unified, too.

More of the Latin aesthetic

The bedroom exudes more the Mexican cultural aesthetic we mentioned earlier. The vintage trunk grounds the room with a sense of longevity amidst an otherwise modern interior. The panel of blue on the lower portion of the wall, green bedspread, and tiling heighten the cultural essence of tropical Latin style.

Sultry courtyard

It is the courtyard that brings out the aesthetic of a traditional hacienda. In particular, the stones paving the centre, the rustic brick wall, and the trellis point to this historical kind of home, which brings a tinge of romance to the modern version we see today. The halogen lights add a sultry vibe to the courtyard, and there is just the right touch of vegetation. This would be the perfect place to enjoy a balmy evening outdoors.

Idyllic tropical oasis

If you thought the courtyard comprised the entire yard, you’ll be as astonished as we were by this gorgeous in-ground pool. The structure of the home itself, forms a private space for the inhabitants to sunbathe and enjoy a swim in the pool against an idyllic tropical backdrop. The trees form a lovely canopy overhead and the orange walls of the porch complement the light blue pool beautifully.
