Our renovation segment today is all about kitchens. Considered by many to be the heart of the home, the kitchen is where we bring loved ones together over a hot meal, good wine and profound conversation. In order to achieve the perfect ambience for this, you need a bright, open and inviting space where functionality remains at 100%.

Take a look at these before and after pictures and get inspired to create an impeccable atmosphere that will leave your guests talking about it for years to come!

1:Before: unsuccessful arrangement

Our first kitchen is quite the spacious one, yet not very convenient for the host or the guest. The organisational structure is a nightmare–pots and pans strewn about, hard to reach drawers and appliances and inadequate light sources make this space hectic and depressing. That's not exactly what we want when entertaining or when alone.

After: bright and comfortable

After a huge amount of changes, this space finally looks ready to welcome us! The main cooking area is located in the back of the kitchen, while the dining room table fit for six occupies the front. Wooden chairs and colourful pieces of artwork liven up the space and keep it from feeling too monotonous. And then there's the wonderful use of subway tiles and the clean lines from the wooden boards that give an added illusion of depth and streamline the area.

2:Before: a cluttered mess

Similarly, this next kitchen was way too crowded to be of comfort to anyone. And although there's more colour and variation in this room, it still looks chaotic. These residents wanted something modern, sleek and efficient and were also looking to add a few elements for entertaining. Let's see what those were…

After: ultra lustrous

And here we have it. We can't help but marvel at this incredible transformation. Bright white, glossy cabinetry, marble tile flooring and pops of bold orange accents make this the quintessential hang-out place for business or pleasure. And now we can see the addition of a super convenient mini bar. What more could you want in a kitchen?

3:Before: old villa-style kitchen

This kitchen has a huge setup made from solid oak, but the country villa style isn't exactly what the owners wanted anymore. With the desire to have something a little more contemporary with perhaps an additional entertainment option, they contacted professional architects to revamp the place and give it a fresh new look.

After: practical and fashionable

What a difference a change in materials makes! The most striking difference in this new kitchen is undoubtedly the kitchen island which gives extra storage options and additional counter space (as if the enormous U-shape wasn't enough). The overhead cabinets were removed for a more open design, which freed up some wall space for a nice flat-screen television set for the residents and their guests to enjoy.

4:Before: dark and dreary

Faded and stained white cabinetry, minimal lighting and dark flooring are all the elements you need for a gloomy and dismal atmosphere. And since that's the aesthetic most of us are trying to avoid, this space was in desperate need of a change…

After: complete change in style

This kitchen went from catastrophic to phenomenal, all with just one change in style! Scandinavian minimalism is the perfect choice when you want the polar opposite of dark and dreary.

5:Before: horrid collection of images

Even without a very close look at this kitchen, it is clear that it's been waiting for repairs for a long time. Children's drawings on the refrigerator, as always, are touching, but nothing more can be said about this space.

After: bright mosaic patterns

After a few renovations, this space is now a cheerful and welcoming room! Coated in an array of bright mosaic tiles, this kitchen was given a child-like charm with playful energy. And the crimson flooring brings out the best in it! The rest of the design was left untouched, giving us a good blend of modern minimalism and Mediterranean flair.
