The idea of the perfect house is, of course, on the face of it, very relative. Every single human being is a complex creature who's tastes and opinions on aesthetic concepts is based on their own experiences, culture, and personal history. This means, that there is a huge variety of items of all shapes and sizes that will appeal to all kinds of different people.

However, there are certain concepts and opinions, in the sphere of professional architects, that can help us focus our tastes into a couple of smaller specific details, therefore helping us shape the decisions we make concerning our choice in design and architecture.

Below are some of these specific details, that can be tucked into a room, potentially even go unnoticed, and yet still make a huge impact on the overall feel of the house. We hope that these hidden gems will act as an inspiration, and that you will, in turn, transform your home into something amazing.

1. Colour combining

Colour clash is a real danger when it comes to mixing two shades together. To some, it is such a danger that it even prevents them from trying it, rather choosing to keep each room a single colour, for hope of not messing up. However, we believe that it is sometimes important to be daring and try out new things. Mixing together two colours can have a great effect on both of them, as they enhance one another, creating one amazing room. Don't be afraid to step outside your comfort zone and try something new.

2. A round table

While tradition calls for most tables to be rectangular or square, so as to fit them into the room properly, a round table might actually be the better alternative. Even though it won't fit everywhere perfectly, the round table is still a great thing for organising your items around, as it allows for them to be accessible, anywhere around the table. What's more, a round table lets you see everyone around you more comfortably, saving you the extra work of not having to continuously turn your head.

3. Include different textures

Just like with different colours, different textures can be a tricky thing to pull off. However, when done properly, it can really make a room special, and add an extra dimension of depth. The best way to pull of a texture is via the carpet. Carpets are versatile, and will hardly ever go out of fashion, allowing them to be the perfect medium with which to experiment. When setting out to do something great, try to go above and beyond.

4. New spaces

Try integrating new spaces into your existing rooms to give them a better feel or a fresh dynamic. A great example of remixing your room is shown in the bedroom above. Adding a coffee table, and even a coffee machine nearby, can really change your morning routine, potentially making you more efficient. It's tricks like these, that you really have to try first hand to see if they fit your lifestyle. While some may dismiss it immediately, we suggest giving it a go, and seeing what happens.

5. Work in favour of the traditional

When you've got a set style going, it's best to maintain it and fully commit. This includes not only steering the furniture and the decorations towards the chosen style, but also the colour and essence of the room. The living room above is a great example of a room that fully dedicates itself to a style, adding little touches like the wallpaper colour and the frame around the door to fully sell the style. Dedication is hard, but can most certainly pay off.

6. The collections

As time goes on, you'll no doubt find yourself with a lot of stuff that has been passed down from generation to generation. Instead of keeping these things in a box, we suggest you display them proudly as a collection, drawing the attention of your guests. Most importantly however, creating this collection also creates a place in which you can reinforce and help perpetuate memories and tradition. The past is all around us, so don't forget about it.

7. Create new options and innovate without fear

When you first look at this bathroom, the thing that will probably stand out is the ornate design and the marble walls. What may surprise you upon second glance, are the wicker baskets below the sink. While they may seem out of place at first, the baskets are actually a great design choice, as they both disrupt the set style, and bring about a new bit of energy to the room. Like the title says, don't be afraid to innvoate.

8. Bring nature into your home

Any room can be made even better with plant life in it. That is a universal fact. Adding vegetation not only brings a bit of green, but brings something living and real, giving you a silent companion. If you're trying to diversify with colour, and create a cosy space, plants are the way to go.

9. Include volume

Another great way of adding extra depths to your room is by garnishing it with embossed textures, the most common of which would be something similar to the vines in the living room above. These garnishes add a very contemporary and elegant feel to the room, emphasising the environment around them. If you're looking for a more modern alternative to plants, this may be just what you're looking for.

10. Integrate the spaces

Another good reason why having a unified design style might be seen as a positive, is that, if done right, all the pieces fit together like a jigsaw puzzle, eventually creating a glorious whole. This jigsaw style ensures that nothing feels like it's overdone or that it might be out of place. Thanks to all of this, you can maintain a relaxing atmosphere and an overall good feeling in the room.

11. Great colours

A critical secret to the success of many rooms are the colours hidden within. While we've already spoken about mixing two colours together, and potentially creating a colour clash, a safer strategy, might be just adding small splashes around. This reduces the chance of clash, because the new colours won't take up as much space, but still provides all the benefits, primarily that it gives the room a bit of new energy. If you want to try to play it safe, going slow but steady is a perfectly resonable choice.

12. Colour choice

Continuing on the topic colours, be sure to build on a solid basis. What we mean by this, is that it is important to add some neutral colours beneath all the bright ones. The neutral colours set up a great platform from which you can expand, and eventually build something even greater. While it's easy to dive head first into all that colour, a more humble beginning is needed, to fully appreciate the more energetic aftermath.

13. Don't waste corners

Even though it is difficult to fill up an entire room with great art, you must resist the temptation to give up halfway through. If that were to happen, you would feel empty and incomplete every time you'd walk past one of those corners. Instead, let the blank spaces act as canvases, upon which you unleash your mind, and create something amazing. With just a pinch of imagination, any blank space can be turned into something.

14. Don't fear large art

Even if you own a large home, chances are that you may feel a bit intimidated by large artwork. And that's okay, since it is hard to maneuver and find a good place for it. But once you do discover such a place, it's a shame not to use your amount of free space to create something really cool. With large pieces of art, you can turn your home into your very own personal art gallery.

15. Adapt the room

Don't be afraid of having one thing become the dominant subject of the room. An example of this working, is the living room above. While you can easily maneuver around and still use it for it's original purpose, the new idea behind this room is to turn it into a giant library, with stacks of books escaping from the glass cabinet, and taking over the rest of the room. However, always be aware that the dominant subject may change, so make sure the room remains adaptable to this sort of change.

16. Entrances

Finally, we end at the beginning. The entrance is key to a good house, mainly because it draws people in, and provides a good first look as to the type of person that you are. Because they're meant to be welcoming, try to make your entrance as bright and friendly looking as possible. Also, help the door stand out by using a different type of material, or at least a different colour. When bringing new people in, try to get them to like you with a marvelous entrance.

And, if you want to work on your entrance a bit more, this article may be of great use to you, as it will guide you through the use of simple ideas in order to get some amazing entrances.
