Pietre di Borgogna by Ceramiche Refin is the new Queen of the majestic DaySpa created at the Queen Mary Hotel in Cattolica, the jewel of Romagna Riviera

Today, there are many projects to which Ceramiche Refin, a company that specialises in the production of porcelain stoneware tiles, have given their own contribution, putting know how and excellent products at the disposal of customers. The company has had a proactive role in important projects across the world and in various contexts and locations, from hotel to public venues, private residences, stores, showrooms of the best fashion and food brands. This time Ceramiche Refin has been chosen by architect Bulgarelli for a wellness centre project, the Queen Mary Spa Area Benessere, a paradise dedicated to relaxation in the heart of Cattolica, the famous seaside town in the Romagna Riviera.

In this magical location, the protagonist is, without a doubt, the ’Pietre di Borgogna’ collection by Ceramiche Refin in sand colour and in 30x60cm size, manufactured, for this project, with a micro-grip surface finish to guarantee the adequate anti-slip resistance to the floor.

The collection was used in all spaces, creating a sort of material continuity, not only on floors and walls but also for showers, the Turkish bath seats, the heated seat preceding the “wasser paradise” as well as the cladding of the deck-level swimming pool reaching a total of 350m² of ceramic coverings.

Located inside the Queen Mary Hotel, the new DaySpa welcomes guests in a sophisticated atmosphere, where to indulge in moments of total relaxation and self-care and to de-stress in a regenerating space.

Natural materials, minimal and refined style, the Queen Mary Spa offers a unique experience in a balance of earth, air, fire and water, the four basic vital elements.

In today’s society where “progress means acceleration”, where we no longer have time to focus and reflect, bombarded from all four corners of the world, by a constant flow of information, the Spa has the potential to become an important shelter-refuge. And it’s following this “belief”, working by subtraction, looking for the essential values, absolute rigour and an almost monastic pureness that the DaySpa at Queen Mary Hotel in Cattolica was designed by architect Luigi Bulgarelli.

No surprising special effect, no sentimental images of leaves and trees symbolising nature that are often reproduced using opulent mosaics that are, instead, a symbol of luxury and exclusivity.

An oasis of peace, the Queen Mary Spa Area Benessere offers the senses a shroud with minimal, precise lines, with warm, welcoming shades, made up of natural materials with noble, marked and timeless textures. The spaces, whose shape is revealed by a subtle balance of light and shadow, develop important, reassuring and protective volumes that create various paths, unexpected views that dilate the perception of the venue. A linear planimetry distribution guarantees efficient and bright flows.

A small foyer welcomes guests in a minimal and rarefied atmosphere: the palette of delicate beige hues, the typical colour and veining of the Makassar Ebony, the  bronzed translucence of glass, the discreet and rhythmic light, dramatic and marked at the same time to stress a detail. The foyer gives access to the beauty treatment rooms and to cloak rooms, mono-material refined cases, entirely covered with Pietre di Borgogna porcelain stoneware in the natural Sabbia shade.

The access to the thermal baths is along an initiatory path in which the material continuity is enhanced by the light coming from below.

The scene is dominated by the majestic wall covered with Refin ceramics that, hit by grazing lights, plunges into the central pool, covered using the same material.

The lobby, the heart of the thermal spa, opens up to the large Sauna, the Turkish bath and the relaxation area characterised by imposing bronzed glass windows.

Again, in contrast with the impressive mirrors, two high and narrow paths invite the guest to enter a more intimate and recollected dimension: a breathtaking shower with aroma and chromo-therapy and a “bucketful” shower. A third opening houses the ice basin, next to the Sauna.

Slight further along, yet another recess opens out into an inviting heated stereo-metric seat, covered with Pietra di Borgogna, a natural venue of rest and relaxation.

Close to that, a double path offers another chance to feel invigorated via the alternation of hot and cold water jets, nebulised or showered, and coming from the ceiling and from the wall.

The path ends with a descent to the warm relaxation area where the Pietra di Borgogna hands over its role as protagonist to two large boiseries with Makassar Ebony listels that frame the soft and pure chaise longue.

The cloak room gives guests a final stage: the bathroom and shower areas are veritable micro-cosmos dedicated to the pleasure of wellbeing, recollecting the recently lived experience. Here too, everything is minimal with a sophisticated waiver to the surplus, enclosed in the sensual material effect of stone tinged with light.

He has carried out important projects for wellness and fitness areas as well as stores and private houses. He is constantly in search for new architecture opportunities and this is revealed by his recognizable project style, characterised by clear compositions and formal pureness, aimed at reaching the delicate balance between emotional and functional space.

FOCUS ON PIETRE DI BORGOGNA COLLECTION

The collection takes inspiration from the traditional French limestone from Bourgogne, the French department that is renowned across the world for the excellent wines and the rich architecture of castles, abbeys and Romanic style buildings. Refin reinterprets, in ceramics, this precious material that was widely used in historical architecture and combines its aesthetic appeal with the excellent technical features and performance of Refin porcelain stoneware.

Pietre di Borgogna ceramics are available in five graphic and colour versions, two of which with a textured surface finish, and interpreting the different peculiarities of the natural material. Natural shades ranging from white to beige and grey, with bright and dark effects interrupted by delicate or marked dots and veining and by irregular grey traces that evoke the fossil shells typically engraved on the natural material by which the collection is inspired.
