This contemporary mansion was designed around the clients’ interests in the countryside and horticulture. A key constraint of the brief was that we must not create a single storey glass box, as the clients wanted multi-level accommodation and privacy is important, the site featuring a public right of way at one end. The solution was to use
tactical planting to allow the buildings occupants to enjoy views into the landscape while restricting the public’s view into the house and private garden area. The house has been designed around the owner wanting to build using timber frame construction and to employ many renewable and energy saving features. The form and function of the surrounding estate has been designed as a contemporary interpretation of a classical English country estate. The scheme had the support of the planners up to the point of decision where unfortunately it was affected by a decision made against another landowner and unrelated to the design itself, currently we are amending the scheme for re-submission.
